Millenial With a Pearl Earring

I was only supposed to do this for homework, but I loved it so much I just HAD to share it!

This is a reinterpretation of "Girl With a Pearl Earring" made by the artist Johannes Vermeer between 1665 and 1667. It was a painting made only to prove that the artist was capable of painting an expression and/or her beauty, even though no one knows who the model was (there's a movie where they say it's a maid that worked for the artist) it's still known for being serene and quite beautiful. As the name suggests, the focus point of the painting recides right on her pearl earring. She's also known as the Dutch Mona Lisa.

For my piece I used pop-art style. Pop art is known for showing what is popular at the moment, and what is more popular right now than smarphones, selfies, duck faces, hoodies and high ponytails. Of course I kept the pearl, otherwhise it would lose it's focus point. Pop art also uses a comic book style (from the 60's of course) shading with dots rather than plasters of color, bright colors and lots of contrast. I tried to keep a similar color palette, as well as her serene face, but I must admit, it's hard to do a serious duck-face.
